Suggested Steps in Establishing a MESA Program for 2007-2008

  1. Decide grade level, number of students, and how to recruit the target population.
  2. Recruit students.  Speak to students personally!
  3. Set a date for a parent meeting to explain the MESA program.  Steps 2 and 3 may be reversed depending on the school’s situation.
  4. Send home Student Enrollment Forms and Permission Forms and return them to Jeremy LaCrosse at the LSC as soon as possible.  Keep copies of the forms for your records.  Do not send Permission Forms. All State MESA Forms may be found on the CMESA website or Documents & Forms.   Amber Muir, Student Records, has kindly offered to record SASID number on the Student Enrollment Forms, so you do not need to do this!
  5. Plan for the year using information from the October 2 MESA Advisor Project Fair and the website (stvrainmesa.org) Advisor Info; Programming Resources and Kits Available.
  6. Plan early for the MESA Exposition that will be held on April 29 from 6:30-8:00 PM. Attendance will be required.

Important!  Why we need State Assigned Student ID Numbers

The state of Colorado has assigned an ID number to all Colorado students to replace social security numbers.  This Stat helps track students as they move from district to district and even into college.  It would be extremely helpful if MESA is able to track students through college for a several reasons.  MESA students are sought by employers for summer jobs, internships and future employment.  They know that MESA grads are responsible, intelligent and mature.  If the state office can provide contact information for our college students, our corporate sponsors from HP, Janus, NREL, Lockheed Martin and others can contact them regarding opportunities with their companies.

In addition, the state of Colorado will make scholarships available to students who have participated in pre-college programs like MESA if those programs can provide their SASID numbers.  Please be sure to use the new Student Information Forms and include the SASID numbers.
