Eagle Crest MESA Garden Program Is Off and Running!
With support from a Colorado Division of Wildlife grant, St. Vrain Valley Education Foundation Mini-Grant, the Eagle Crest PTO, and the GLOBE Program, Eagle Crest MESA students celebrated “Leave No Child Inside Day” with a garden groundbreaking ceremony. Sixty-three learners cleared a 20-by-20-foot plot formally known as the "Get off the Rocks for the Rest of Your Life" area to make room for our Square Foot Garden plots.
The Eagle Crest student garden leadership team has organized committees and has been planning our MESA Garden. The team’s activities include:
- Researching the various types of studies we will participate in
- Deciding which types of plants to cultivate
- Designing posters for informational meetings
- Creating a logo and garden acronym
- Writing scripts and music for our pod casts
- Documenting our garden progress through photography and journaling
Additionally, a group of lead teachers has been trained in the GLOBE Program to follow GLOBE’s phenology protocols (the scientific study of seasonal biological phenomena, such as flowering, breeding, and migration, in relation to climate conditions). As part of this program, our students will collect data to share with scientists and other students from around the world.
