Longmont High MESA Wins First Place in State Energy Contest!
Longmont High School's MESA Home Energy Team won first place in the State Home Energy Audit Competition on Friday 4/28/06 at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Jamie Shelstad, Katie Fleming, Abbie Watts and Julie Bushey audited five different Longmont homes for energy efficiency. They had to determine energy loss per square foot, R values of insulation and windows, and implications of the energy loss. They took their calculations a step further to determine that the City of Longmont could save approximately $3 million per month if energy improvements were made in each home.
